Dear Ms. Poeuv,
I am a middle school teacher (Irish-American) in an urban school in Brockton, Massachusetts. Also, my nephew married a Cambodian girl whom he met in his hometown of Lexington, Mass. when they were young. As I love my niece-in-law, Tavery, and as I am always seeking to be a more informed teacher, I bought your movie “New Year Baby” from amazon.com.
Wow. You are brilliant. I love the way you created a suspense story, a love story, wove in animation and fantastic music…I watched it several times myself, showed it to my daughters, and finally showed it to my 8th grade students as part of a unit on discrimination. We were all stunned.
Thank you so much. Recently I attended a seminar with Primary Source in Watertown, MA, and one of the speakers was Ms. Phala Chea. I mentioned my knowledge of your film, and Ms Chea told me you are now in Connecticut. If you would consider speaking to our students, that would be incredible. In any event, your candor and loving treatment of your own life touched me in a life- altering manner.
Sincerely,
Eileen Gineitis
